Cool Tug In The Park 2008

The Bay Area Hot Club Sydney held its 12th Annual Tug in the Park Hot Rod Show at
Stanwell Park NSW on Sunday the 3rd.
Sunday morning waking up at 7am for the long trek down to Wollongong or more precisely Stanwell park. The weather was very over cast and we were in two minds about whether to travel to the show thinking there wouldn’t be much interest in weather like this.
As we approached Stanwell Park, we caught up with a tail end of a few very tidy rods. We then followed them down the windy hill to where we spotted dozens of cars lined up on the grass. We were surprised to see the turnout on such an overcast day. They had a big stage setup on the grass where rock bands were playing great music. Pinky as per usually was doing a great job of keeping the crowd informed on the events happenings.
After walking around for a little and checking out the quality of the cars we heard a rumble coming down the hill and thinking it was a group of bikers and didn’t pay much attention. As the rumble got closer we noticed there were a few cars in front first a green XY falcon followed by a light blue XY falcon both sounding tough as nails but following was a black Capri. We instantly thought that must be Trick and Mansweto, who already had their XW falcon parked on the grass. Boy were we wrong, the Trick and Mansweto gold stripe wasn’t visible on the side and it was painted in a matt black. After it had parked and the owner had lifted the bonnet off. Although it was finished in matt black, the build quality was amazing, Carbon fibre was high on the menu, with carbon fibre tubs, seats, floors and dash making for one very light monster. Looking under the hood revealed a Shafiroff built N/A big block that looked like it was ready to swallow any low flying seagulls.
The range of other cars was amazing with cars from restored Eh holdens, to an array of Chevs and all in all very tough streeters! Another car which caught my eye in particular was a bright orange Chrysler with a nice little surprise in the way of a supercharger sticking through the bonnet. The quality to detail was amazing with everything either painted or polished. There was even a 100 series Land cruiser on show with some great airbrushing on the side but the biggest thing was that it was bagged and dropped to the sills on 24’s, a lot of work had gone into this piece. After spending some time catching up with some mates and getting rained on, we decided it was time to call it a day and head home. It was a great show considering the weather so definitely keep this one marked on your calendars I know I will.
