Our very first Torana and a tough one at that. James has owned this hatch for over 10 years, it started out as his daily driver (first car) and escalated over the years into a dedicated burnout car. James and his wife Helen have steered this A9X mocked LX hatch through many a burnout comp and taken home many a trophy. The little LX started out with a 253 powereplant, backed up by a Supra 5 speed (m21’s just can’t handle a good burnout). It wasn’t until late 2006 that the 253 and manual box were swapped out for the current VR 5L and 2 speed powerglide combo which has proved to be a very tough and reliable setup. FRYZEM - no need for any explanation on those plates is there? “We use to tow a trailer full of spares behind it to every event…”Twin 575cfm Demon carbs sit atop a Cain manifold producing ~300hp at the tyres. James has proven that there isn’t a need for 1000’s of hp to churn out plumes of smoke in a burnout comp. A tough reliable setup like FRYZEM, is what allows both James & Helen to enter the same burnout comps, sometimes a change of tyres is the only time the car gets to cool down once the burnouts begin. “This was my very first car and has gone through 3 different rebuilds over the years. I drove it everyday for 7 years before turning it into a dedicated burnout car. We use to tow a trailer full of spares behind it to every event, smash tyres and drive it home. Now it goes on the trailer.” James & Helen recently revamped the interior of FRYZEM, adding new door cards, carpets, wheel and seats along with a completely new trim for the hatch area. The firewall has been smoothed, brake booster and heaterbox removed and to top it all off a fibreglass bonnet has been fitted. What’s Next?“We’re currently building a car for Helen, another Torana (4 door LC) which we’re hoping to have finished by Springnats 08, it will be used as a show car for now and maybe for a few burnouts in the future. Apart from that the LX is running nicely and we’ll keep on smashing tyres.” Quick Specs James & Helen North switched on 1976 Holden LX Torana Hatch Colour : Orange Occupation : Auto Electrician Age : 26 ENGINE Make : VR 5.0L Carbie : Twin Demon 575cfm Heads : Ported & Polished Ignition : Bosch HEI Exhaust :none - extractors only Cooling : 3 core copper with stock water pump Crankshaft : standard Inlet Manifold : Cain Tunnel Ram TRANSMISSION Gearbox : 2 Speed Powerglide Converter : TCE 5000 Stally Diff : Full spool 9” 3.55 SUSPENSION & BRAKES Springs : Kings Springs & Monroe shocks up front (lowered 2″), Adjustable Coil overs on the back with adjustable upper arms. Great looking Torana James and Helen
N/A and sounds as tuff as - very cool - and even cooler that Helen is not frightened of giving it some either. Well done

Yeah she isn't afraid of it at all - it's good to see, should be more women involved in all forms of motorsport.
