Tiny,
With a set-up as tuff as yours, your builder obviously knows what he is on about - I would just follow exactly what he says.

Unless the HQ is sitting idling a lot I'm not sure a thermo on the oil cooler is necessary - good air flow is the important part.

Cheers,
Neale

Hey Bigred! Thanks for the reply mate,
The car does do a fair bit of cruising, and sometimes this means traffic! I was concerned about that for the box as i guess this would be the worst combo - Hot day, in traffic crawling so never getting any kind of lockup!

Even though ive got the Au fans on the inside of teh radiator, I dont know wether they would pull air though a large trans cooler as well!

Also.. i was concerned about blocking the airflow to part of the radiator ( a large part with a large cooler!) so i thought that a fan could keep the trans temp down AND assist air to pass the trans cooler and then go through the radiator as well!

This is where my brain starts to hurt and wonder if i'm over thinking the situation or if i am on the right track!

Tanka: I dont have any kind of electronic lockup plans for mine! Especially as its a full hydraulic/mechanical setup in my car!

Cheers

i think your talkin bout a transbrake bud nah a lockup torque converters it sorta locks when your cruisin in top gear so your not reving as hard, all standard converters have them.
it is controlled by a hydraulic pump in the box.

i know two guys who use 518's (4 Speed 727's) and they have an electronic lockup convertor, and they are adjustable with external boxes.

They swear by them, but their cars are purely cruisers not strip/burnout

nathan,
You sure you mean electrically controlled external lock-up converters on the 518? If your talking about the extension that they put on the rear of the 727 box to give it type of overdrive capability this isn't aan electrically controlled lock up converter like the other guys are talking (actually the 518 is hydraulic but can be connected through a solenoid switch) Anyway this is a fairly different sort of set-up.

Twin AU's if they are shrouded to cover the whole radiator will pull through a lot of air - I'd be pretty sure they will still pull through a similar amount of air even with the big oil cooler.
From the photos the front of the Monaro is not disimilar to the Val in that they are wide, a fairly good gap between the grill and the radiator and heaps of metal on the radiator support on either side.
I run a ADC aluminium radiator and big oil cooler as well - the oil cooler is set off to the side and covers a third of the big radiator and some of the metal support. Twin thermos (shrouded) pull through from the engine side -no separate tranny cooler.
This seems to keep both the tanny cool and the radiator never gets hot. Can put up some photos if your interested.

Maybe a suggestion would be to connect up an oil temp guage for the tranny - simple and cheap to do and would certainly give you piece of mind.

Cheers Neale
