yeh good read - we probably should hijack this thread though. Most of the ones we see in Aus are the 2wire non-lock type - simpler to fit and a fair bit cheaper. Let's leave the thread for the original subject though.

Hey Guys,

Got the stallie in and took it for it's first drive yesterday in traffic....

WOW...

Unfortunately TCE dont give you an exact stall speed, so i'm having trouble telling people just how big the stall is, and never having had a high stall car i dont have much to compare it to!

The car pulls away nice from lights at about 2000 Rpm, but i can feel its still slipping ( of course). if you stand on it off the lights it goes somewhere near the 4000 mark!

Anyway.. I'm a bit worried about cooking the oil, even though we stuck in a big permacool cooler to try and help out.

Can anyone give me any tips on how best to drive with a big stalled car!?
I'm after ideas on how to cruise, how best to take off in traffic, should i be trying to drive around idling, or revving, or locked up? (which is hard.. cause at 4000 i'm doing some crazy speeds! - Not traffic friendly!).

Also if any of you drag racers have any tips on launching a car with a high stall it would be appreciated too!

Cheers!

No i havent, but it's something i DEFINITLY want!

I didnt think about it at the time, but i should have had a guage installed while i had the pan off!

The deep pan is a bit of a hard one, I know if i get a deep pan it would be lower than the crossmember which i just dont want! I dont want to risk ripping the guts out of it over a speed hump!

I'm running redline Synthetic racing oil, a big permacool cooler ( which i'm going to talk to Eze10s about maybe changing to the one with the fan for low speed traffic driving), and i try and drive it carefully!

Let us know how you go!

hey tiny, i was once told to find out your stall you have to have a full manual box and quickly stall it in top gear stationary and the revs will just stop where the lock up is! phil sodestrom makes the best stallies! my brothers 4cylinder celica, 1.8 turbo went from 12.2 manual to a 10.9 see you later kid full manual protrans c4 and a tce converter! the 45mins conversation with phil and 133o bucks for a 9" converter was well worth the kudos spent with telstra! he got sent home to get a cage and other andra requirements! all from a v&e rigoli built 3tgteu twin cam 1.8litre and b/w 4.11 diff by craft diffs! its all in the converter!

Thanks for that Simbad!

Unfortunately My box is "Stage 3" shift - basically all but fully manualised!

I gave it a big bootload in top gear from about 40Kph, and the tacho went to about 5000! ive gotto get my dash installed so i can have a good look!

Thanks again mate, I think it's going to do wonders at the track!

Cheers!
