Default Sizing a Stall Convertor

Hey Guys,

This is something i'm trying to get as much info on from as many people as i can because i'm getting conflicting information!

My Situation:
HQ Monaro - 400 Chev 367 RWHP -
TH400
9" with 3.7:1 Gears

It's currently got a Dominator stall in it, which was built for the previous engine with a much smaller cam. Previously it really didnt act like much of a stall at all.. I called it around 2000Rpm.

Anyway.. I've spoken to TCE ( Through my Engine Builder), given them all my specs and what i use the car for and they reccomended a 3800 Stall ( Dont recall what diameter though!).

At the moment i cruise down the highway at about 3200Rpm, and i'm crossing the line at the track at about 5500-6000.

My concern is drivability and overheating the trans oil. I do quite a bit of "Cruising" and highway driving with the car, and i dont want to cook the trans by having it slipping at below lockup speed of 3800!

Am i worrying over nothing? Or is it a valid point?
Suggestions/Experiences/Thoughts appreciated!

Cheers!

Do you have a trans cooler? not the one bulit into the radiator but an actual seperate oil cooler. If not fit one that should keep it nice and cool

burnouts are fine cause the convertor wouldnt be slipping on the limitor i have a decent sized cooler but i might end up putting a thermo fan on it too.

tiny ive got a tce 5000 convertor in mine and used to have a dominator. the tce is a much tighter convertor. mine doesn't create hardly any heat and is totally drivable and cruisable. after having both types i would strongly recommend a tce.

That's not bad considering that both companies are owned by the same guy, or use to be.

I use to run a 5500 converter on the street with a rather small cooler and never had any heat issues. Just make sure it get plenty of good air flow.
