Thanks mate. Yeah the grill mod makes me smile too, I didn't invent it but I love the look of it. Was hard to cut my grill up considering it was in perfect condition and had already been painted......... oh well its only paint and metal

Trying to keep the momentum going F*&^in sucks in winter. Been getting up at 5 so I can get a couple of hours in on the hardy before work during the week cause afternoons are a lost cause at the moment.
I'm sure everyone else is in the same boat.

Default little steps

Well, got the grill in final mock-up so I figured I'd grab a pic, (corners weren't done in the pic) Now I've got to blow it all apart and paint it then hopefully get it to line up all over again.

Grabbed a pic of the custom dash wiring, all came up fairly neat just got to wire the rest of the car to it......lol
Also took a pic of all the wire ready to go, even with a discount it came to about $300, should have a bit left over though, which is lucky cause I think the person who wired my Lux was drunk or on medication when they did it so it will get some attention after the Val is finished.

Also mounted the ignition and MAP on the fire wall, its starting fill up inside the engine bay but so far I've managed to keep everything compact and it should still look neat enough even once the wiring goes in.

I posted a Q in the general tech section but no one posted any suggestions so I'll throw up some ideas I was thinking of:

The pic shows a car with a cage, I'm still not going to put a cage in but the idea of a straight bar running across from piller to piller just behind the seat looks like a possible solution for me to run a 4 point harness while keeping the back seats functional.

The other idea I had was inspired by a BMW convert I saw that had the shoulder restraint anchored to the seat. This to me suggests that there is provision in the law to have the seat act as the seat belt attachment. Of course the only person who can really clear this up for me is an engineer but any comments from you guys would of course be welcome.

Default Minor update

Got some more time on the car this morn, just little stuff but figured I'd throw it up anyway.

I took a pic of the fuse and relay box just to show the direction I'm headed as far as updateing the electrical system of the car. Its out of a VN, got it for less than $20, and a very kind auto spark friend went through it and labeled and terminated it for me. This will be mounted in the boot behind a false wall next to the battery.

The other pic I took was of the new fuel level sender I installed for my aftermarket fuel guage. The stock ChryCo voltage range was opposite to my guage so there was no way to use the existing one. I've washed out the tank with petrol a couple of times but I'm still concerned about debris, I'm thinking of putting a disposable filter infront of the lift pump and just keeping an eye on it. I've got a super fine filter up front just prior to the fuel rails to protect the injectors.

Also How scared were you to Cut into the tank?

How long left on this machine mate? I want to see it burning rubber in next to no time!

Default new stuff

Hey Nath (Fat245) Yes I'm painting the tank, looks a bit rough at the moment huh. And yes I did freak a bit about drilling into it but at the end of the day you've got to remember it is only metal so might as well jump in with both feet.
RE: How long left on this machine mate? I want to see it burning rubber in next to no time! Well thats not an easy question to answer, how much left is not that much so hopefully it'll be running soon.
I've never seen this car turn a tire in anger as I bought it already half torn down.

Now onto new business. The running of wire in the car has started, the phantom grill has also started prep for paint along with the wheels. Tires have been ordered.

OK, one of the unique things about these cars is that the door card is quite narrow. This makes installing any audio annoying because you almost can't have a six up the front and turn the window crank.

The solution for this is to go electric. I looked at the aftermarket and found some great solutions out there but didn't really want to pay that much for a non essential part so the next step was to addapt an oem part. I found a pair of EF falcon rear motors for $20 on ebay and given that they look like the universal ones I saw for over $150 I figured it was worth a punt.
Heres what they looked like landed:

As you can in this photo its to long for the door, Those lines are where I intend to section it.

Here it is sectioned, last step is to weld in the stainless flat bar I bought to re-inforce the two bits and reduce flex, then work out how I'll mount it in the door.

One extra showing it taped so I could mock it up

I'll get some pics of some of the work being done on the interior this week end.

Bet that was a surprise first time it happened!

As far as whats going on with the val, the last two mornings have been spent getting my tank and splash guard ready for paint. Bloody time consuming job but the only way to get them ready to re-install.

Figured I'd chuck in a pic of my new toy as well, Its an ebay cheapy but good enough for me to learn on. This is my first real attempt at welding so at the moment to learning curve is steep.
First welding project has been the hard lid for my ute. The hard lid frame has turned out even better than expected but the ute has been kind enough to throw a piston out the side of the block on monday so next weeks job is an engine swap for it. It just never ends.

Default Quick update

Well things are slowly progressing, but unfortunately life has hit a slight snag with my hilux fireing a rod out the side of the block. Once I've got that sorted I'll be back full time on the Val. As you can see from the pic the engine is out its just a matter of swapping accessories over to the new donk in the background.

here's work bay 2 ATM:

In the mean time my girlfriend has been working on the interior of the boot. I'll grab some pics soon. Other than that its just tying up loose ends. I wasn't happy with how the radiator was mounted so I've taken it out to re-do it. also sorting out the rear windows and get them back in the car.... of course lots of little bits to prep & paint so they can be re-installed. My god the list never ends.
