Default Drag car set-up??? NEW

Hi all new to this forum

Was wondering what's the most basic set-up would i need to get drag racing.

Trying to build a GTS HQ drag ute
Got a 215kw 308, 2500 stalled trimatic, 750m double pumpers 3.36 diff

What else is paramount to start racing?
Launch control? Locked minispool diff? purge tanks? Thermos?
A current (non-turbo/ carby) set-up that someone has similar would be great to compare to - how did your set-up start out?

Thanks in advance

I didn't mean to hijack this thread but I am looking for some advice as well - especially as some of you guys have built some seriously fast street /drag cars.

The Charger is now booked into her first drag day through the Falcon GT and Chrysler clubs (8th June) at WSID. I don't want to make a fool of myself so I am keen to get some advice on what I can do to set her up. A few details about the car if it helps

1. She needs to be a weekend cruiser (not a daily driver) as well as more drag work in the future. This makes it tough because I enjoy taking her on some of the longer cruises the club does which means some highway driving - currently revs at about 3300 rpm at 100-110km/h.

2. Motor
360ci, 40thou bored out, large port Chrysler heads, pacemakers, twin 3" xpipe mandrel bent exhaust, Eddy RPM air Gap, Holley 750DP, mild cam (not exactly sure of specs), 10.5:1 compression, MSD 6AL (6000 rpm pill) and Blaster 2 coil.

Aluminium triple flow radiator with twin thermos, no power steering or A/C.

She's got a dyno run coming up but expect somewhere around 350 at the wheels.

3. Trany/ diff
Shift kitted 727 Torqueflite 3000 stally, 3.55 gears.

4. Wheels suspension
17" wheels with 8" rear with 255 /45 rubber (Falken FK452). Suspension is pretty standard except for nolathane bushes, Rancho shocks, and big mother sway bars front and rear.

She weighs approx 1340Kg without the fat bastard in the drivers seat.

Would really appreciate any advice on getting the best time?

That thing sounds sweet mate, when do we get to see some pictures of it
And not that i'm much of a drag expert but i reckon if your doing highway driving a bit than i would first invest in a good set of drag radial/slicks for the track and maybe a little punch of nitrous?

thanks Kickass,

yeh I was thinking it was about time I put something in the my rides section.

It looks like the most common diameter for drag slicks /semislicks is 15" - unfortunately these are the least common size for a chrysler /ford stud pattern so my problem would be getting wheels made up in time. Another option would be to look at 17" slicks like the ones below (245/40/17) but I think these are designed for circuit racing so I am not sure if they would work at the strip????????????

If yo can get a set of AU Chaser Rims, I have a Set of 35mm Spacers that will help you get them on your car.

Aren't AU Chaser rims 16 x 7's. Think my issue is more likely to be getting more rubber on the road Nathan.
