Exclamation Turbo Flutter.

Hi guys, i have 2 questions.

I have a vl turbo, it has: T3/T4 T04E turbo(ebay job i think), high mount manifold, internal wastegate, no cooler, no BOV, and the AFM is still on the intake side of the turbo.

Question 1: how can i make this setup Flutter/Dose/wootwoot? haha i do get noise coming out but it just kinda sounds like a BOV.

Question 2: my mate has a 200sx and when he isnt havin a go it will flutter, then when he is right up it, the blow off valve goes off, as far as i know its stock with a BOV, why/how do you make it do that?

i know they are probably silly questions but i like the sound of cars fluttering and ive NEVER had one that does it. its pi$$ing me off, haha

Thanks

Jay

it does but I was told way back when that it only really becomes a big issue on ceramic bladed turbos and when you run massive boost.

Thats true, but who wants any stress thats not required, I reckon any release of boost to atmosphere unless its out the exhaust is a bit of a stupid idea. Not only are you confusing your ECU into thinking its got more air then it does (which can create all sorts of dramas), but ur also getting rid of all the boost that your turbo has just made. if your gonna do anything run a bypass valve back into your intake after your air flow meter so it doesnt confuse your ECU. Thats the most efficient and best way to do it without drawing any attention to yourself with a big turbo sneeze.

From what I remember reading in Zoom Magazine, what it does is try and make the impellar spin backwards, slowing it and increasing the stress on the blades.

Yeah its probably turbine surge thats making the sound. If ya really wanted a big silly loud BOV sound youd put the valve directly after the turbo, that way its getting instant pressure straight from the turbos air discharge. That might make a fluttery sound depending on the turbos RPM but itll be loud as hell if you have one of those horn type sneezers and its going to atmosphere.

Also depends on where ya put the valve too if ya have it pointing up towards your bonnet sound baffling stuff itll be quiet as, but if ya point it out sideways towards edge of the bonnet thatd make a difference too. Either way its all alot of effort for absolutely no gain whatsoever.

Haha dose pipes are pretty retarded, basically its just a pipe that comes off the front of your turbo (filter optional on some).

Its so when you dont run a blow off valve or recycle valve to your intake and you get that compressor surge we have been talking about you can have different sizes and lengths of dose pipe in order to change the length and pitch of your fluttery turbine surge noise.

You need an intercooler to be able to do it and you need to mount your air flow meter after the turbo instead of before to get rid of the ecu problems. Its retarded but i also reckon its pretty funny to watch someone dosing it up like a madman on the street. Alot of people link it to performance but its quite the opposite :)

Turbo flutter sounds good but its not good running no bov and its no good getting a big loud flashy bov, it causes more dramas than its worth..it can stuff your ecu around and cause idling/stalling issues.

I recently went through this same sorta dilemma, deciding whether I should get an atmo bov or a plumback..I too like noise and want some noise coming from it as currently its the stock bov and there is no noise..
Once I upgrade my intake and piping, hopefully it will make some noise but I think I've gone slightly off the idea of a HKS SSQ

u guys are all wrong!!

a dose pipe is the pipe that come off the back off a aftermarket wastegate (external wastegate) and the resaon they make the nosie is cause the pipe is surpose 2 be plumbed back into the exhuast system! but it basic just relaise excess boost!! cause thats what a waste gate does! relates boost and controls it
