Default Maximum boost to run through an sr20det?

Ok i've got an sr20det in my datsun 1600. I've upgraded to a GT25/40R turbo, nismo injectors etc.

Now what i'm interested in finding out is how much boost should I run at an absolute maximum?

I've heard numerous different numbers from plenty of different people. Some say 18, some say 20 to 24psi would be fine. But to be honest 20 to 24psi sounds like I may aswell just throw my engine in the bin. Am I right in thinking this?

I was planning on a dual stage boost controller. I'd do my daily driving on 14psi and when I wanted to get that little extra power, up boost to 18psi. I know for a fact that my injectors, MAF, ECU and fuel system can most definitely stand upto this much boost regularly.

Would I benefit much by running 20 to 24psi?

cheers,

What I have heard is that the sr20det motor can handle 18lbs all day with no problem with the upgrades you have. They can handle 14lbs on the factory settings.

i would tread very carefully after 18psi!! remember block is alloy!! i read an thing many moons ago now that the sr20 will start pingin at about 18psi but wont really be noticed till about 21 22 psi!! not sure how true it is!!

but u think man 17psi with that turbo in a 1600 thats weighs about 700kgs its gunna move either way

SOLUTION!!
either go with the flow and keep adding boost till BOOM and you know it doesn't like that much, or find a really good dyno joint who knows exactly what they are doing and you will be able to tell as you climb up on the boost 1lb at a time where the engine starts to stop making horsies and bring it back a couple of lbs mate.id start at somewhere conservative like 14-16lb and bring it up from there.

haha!

you guys are hilarious. I've run it upto 25psi and no pinging, have some really nice fuel maps for it :) Since backed it down to 18psi - but it's not the same as 25 :P Think I might take the blow it up option to be honest

at least if you just wind the boost right up and it goes bang the feel of the power will be awesome and you will have enjoyed it.

true, the difference is enormous too. Would prefer to keep the engine on one piece but mate, want a quick streeter not burnout 4 banger in 5 billion pieces :)
